Plan my North Vancouver weekend · What's on this weekend
Find a place to stay in North Vancouver
Two days in North Vancouver start on the Lower Lonsdale waterfront, where a museum, a photography gallery and a brewery district sit a few steps apart, then move east to a farm, a Deep Cove cafe, a distillery and a taproom. It suits a first visit, a couple, or a family whose children want animals on the second day. Every stop works in cold, wet weather.
Day 1: Lower Lonsdale and a night at the theatre
Start at Shipyards Coffee on Carrie Cates Court. It pours espresso drinks, tea, cold brew and kombucha on tap, and sells croissants, scones, sandwiches and gluten-free baking.
Walk to MONOVA: Museum of North Vancouver on Esplanade. The main gallery tells North Vancouver's story with artifacts and digital displays, and the archive holds photographs, maps, film and oral histories.
Close by is The Polygon Gallery, a contemporary art gallery with a focus on photography, in a building right on the water. Tickets for upcoming events are on its page.
Wander The Shipyards afterwards: restaurants, cafes and shops on the waterfront, with an outdoor skating rink in the cold months.
Pour an afternoon pint at Beere Brewing Company, a brewery and tasting room in the Shipyards brewery district. The list runs across IPAs, lagers and sours.
For dinner, head up Lonsdale Avenue to Lonsdale BridgeDeck, the Bridge Brewing kitchen and taps, where the menu is built around burgers.
Finish further up Lonsdale at Centennial Theatre. North Vancouver Recreation & Culture runs it as a stage for music, dance, film and theatre. Tickets for upcoming shows are on its page.
Day 2: Lynn Valley, Maplewood and Deep Cove
Breakfast is at Westlynn Bakery in Lynn Valley Centre, which bakes bread, pastries, cookies, cakes, pies and tarts in its own kitchen.
Drive east to Maplewood Farm on Seymour River Place, a farm run by the District of North Vancouver. Goats, sheep and an alpaca are the headline animals, and the farm runs programs for children and families.
Lunch is in Deep Cove at Cafe Orso on Gallant Avenue. The kitchen makes waffles, sandwiches and charcuterie boards, with pastries, espresso, and local beer and wine.
A few doors along Gallant Avenue, First Impressions Theatre is Deep Cove's community theatre, with a full season of plays, musicals and concerts. Read its bill while you are in the village.
Head back toward Main Street for Sons of Vancouver Distillery on Crown Street, an independent distillery built around a rye whisky program.
End the trip at Wildeye Brewing on Main Street. The taproom pours core beers all year plus rotating seasonals, and the Miso Taco kitchen cooks tacos, bowls and sides to share.
Good to know
- Day 1 is a walk: the coffee, the museum, the gallery and The Shipyards share the Lower Lonsdale waterfront. Day 2 spreads across Lynn Valley, Maplewood and Deep Cove, so bring a car or arrange a ride.
- The Polygon Gallery and Centennial Theatre both sell tickets for coming events. Choose your Day 1 evening before you leave home.
- Deep Cove works as a half day of its own: lunch on Gallant Avenue, a walk through the village and a look at what the theatre has on.
Got another weekend? Cross the inlet for a first weekend in Vancouver, or go south for Richmond and Steveston.
